You can just spend all day walking around shopping or taking in the gorgeous views of the pond and mountains like shown in the photos below. From apple picking, fishing for trout, pony rides for kids, hayride tour, school field trips, wine tasting, to a pumpkin patch, or you can shop at the largest craft show of Apple Hill! This farm is an excellent choice for the entire family to visit and just have fun.
Aside from food and shopping, High Hill Ranch has a variety of other activities that are family friendly. They offer apple picking, pony rides, and tractor hay rides. One activity this location has to offer that others cannot is trout fishing right there on site.
Aside from this, adults can participate in apple wine tasting in addition to a guided tour of the ranch. Visitors may want to spend the whole time visiting and exploring all that High Hill Ranch has to offer. Fall is the time of year to celebrate the incredible and magical transformations that nature undergoes. Many individuals have their own traditions on how to enjoy this beautiful season, but most often they involve colorful leaves and harvested produce.
In my experience , an annual trip to these farmlands is a must. Willow Pond Organic Farm is a 38-acre organic vegetable farm and apple orchard. We are located in the Apple Hill area just two miles from downtown Placerville in a beautiful rural setting. Our Market Stand is situated on the edge of the vegetable fields adjacent to our large wildlife pond. We have picnic tables by the pond and welcome visitors to stoll around our fields and orchards. We grow more than 40 kinds of vegetables, eight varieties of apples, figs, cut flowers, herbs, honey and in the fall we offer U-pick apples and a huge pumpkin patch.
Other local farmers contribute fresh eggs, peaches, necterines, plums, blueberries, grapes, nuts, raisions, and pasteries made from our organic fruits. Everything we offer is locally grown, picked fresh and at the peak of ripeness. East of Placerville on Highway 50, the rolling hills are sprinkled with farms and fruit orchards. The air is rich with smells of fresh baked apple pies, and turnovers, lemon bars, cider or doughnuts! In the fall, kids can sample the local apples or pick their own pumpkin for Halloween. Summertime, there are berry picking patches, delicious blueberries, blackberries and raspberries.

This seven-generation family-owned farm is more than just a Christmas tree farm. It also produces berries, apples, pumpkins and vegetables. Situated the farthest east of any of Apple Hill's farms, Harris Tree Farm is definitely worth the extra drive. In the barn you'll find for sale homemade pies, donuts, preserves, apple cider, blackberry salsa and even enchiladas.
Just across the street from the farm you'll find a beautiful and secluded nature trail that is perfect for those looking for a leisurely walk. The serene trail follows the banks of the El Dorado Irrigation District Main Canal, which is more like a little stream tucked under the pines than a canal. The Apple Hill Growers has grown from 16 original ranchers in 1964 to over 55 ranchers today sharing the fruits of their labor with thousands of visitors every year.
A family trip to visit Apple Hill™ means so much more than just apples, pumpkins, pastries, and pies. It's old-fashioned fun and memories that will last a lifetime! Boa Vista offers a variety of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. The bakery has delicious apple cider doughnuts, turnovers, and pies. If you are looking for lunch, they have a grill offering burgers and hot dogs. The pumpkin patch is a fun excursion for the kids and a prime photo op.
For wine enthusiasts, they offer wine tasting as well. Apple Ridge Farm has been a favorite for season after season. With expansive grounds and a variety of activities, this farm can be a one-stop shop for everything that makes Apple Hill a fall attraction. With kid-friendly hiking trails looping around plentiful apple trees, visitors are able to picture themselves as the proprietors of this grand estate.

Apple Hill Pumpkin Patch California We visit Boa Vista all year long and do much of our regular grocery shopping there. The farmstand offers local produce from neighboring farms along with apples from their own ranch. Off-season apple prices are the lowest we have found, so we buy boxes of apples throughout the spring and summer and the apples are some of our favorites.
The farm has a pumpkin patch in fall, and cut-your-own Christmas trees during winter. Delfino Farms has been devoted to creating fresh products from fruit grown on their farm for over 50 years. They welcome families and offer tons of activities for kids including two corn mazes, u-pick pumpkins, a nature trail, farm animals, and a beautiful family-friendly picnic area. Here you can enjoy a large variety of apple desserts and fruit pies.
Most of the growers have take and bake items ff you want to enjoy the Apple Hill experience at home. For the kids, they boast a maze, horse, and pony rides that kids will enjoy. If that's not enough, enjoy a barbeque lunch, craft booths, bakery, and caramel apples.
Looking for the perfect autumn excursion to go with the family? Then Apple Hill in Placerville, California, is the place to go! Located east of Sacramento, this is a must-do trip, especially if you want to have family fun!
The Apple Hill area has over 55 growers, including Christmas tree farms, breweries, and wineries. Located in the foothills, you can experience the peaceful countryside, autumn colors, and incredible apple cider doughnuts (famous here!). Something to keep in mind if your are in the area after apple picking season is over… pumpkin season starts!
Most of these orchards transition over to becoming a pumpkin patch for the month of October so Apple Hill is great day tip to do this fall season. Kids Inc. also has a gorgeous Nature Trail, leading guests on a winding path through the orchard and down to a creek. Autumn marks the beginning of the bustling holiday season. Before the hectic end of the year is upon us, take the time to slow down and enjoy the changing seasons during a visit to Apple Hill.
Apple Ridge Farms is a favorite in our destination guide list and is one of the many kid-friendly farms on Apple Hill. Apple Ridge Farms welcomes families to their ranch, which features farm animals, a hay maze, a tranquil pond, and a nature trail this fall season. They also have an apple barn, a bakeshop, a candy kitchen, and a gift shop, too! Open daily year round, Boa Vista Orchards offers fresh seasonal fruit, with the summer and fall seasons featuring apples, Asian pears, berries, peaches, pears, cherries, and plums.
If you're not local, they also have an online store that sells their non-perishable items. Here you'll find rolling hills showcasing beautiful vineyards, orchards and pines and plenty of food and drink offerings. Stop by Joan's Apple Bakery for a piece of pie, Henrietta Stich Hard Cider or Edio Vineyards Wine for a drink. Families with kids will particularly enjoy the pumpkin patch, corn maze and nature trail surrounding the property.
If things to do aren't enough to get you to Apple Hill, then the tasty baked goods, apple cider, and barbeque should! If you prefer to try something other than theirfamous apple cider doughnuts,fear not. The bakeries have assortments of pies, fritters, and turnovers to feed your craving for fall goodies. They have take and bake pies if you want to enjoy delicious treats at home. Candy apples, a fall favorite, are the perfect treat and check out the delectable versions to chose from. If a picnic lunch appeals more to you, enjoy a lunch of barbeque in the great outdoors at one of the many farms with dining options and outdoor seating.
Our last Apple Hill site we recommend is Rainbow Orchards. If you're going to grab an apple cider donut anywhere in Apple Hill, I have to say this is the place. They are made to order and come out piping and and absolutely delicious! Other sweets besides apple pie that are available here are their apple cream cheese tarts, triple crown blackberry pie, peach cobbler, pumpkin pie, and berry cobblers.
Rainbow Orchards also makes corn dogs from scratch and has weekend Tri-Tip Barbeques from September 28-October 27. Don't forget to try their hard cider brewed on site as well as their fresh-picked fruit of peaches and apples while you're visiting. The orchard I visited last year and I highly recommend is Denver Dan's. You could literally spend hours here being that apple acres are huge! One of the staff members took the time to explains what kind of apples were in season and where they were located in the orchard.
Onsite you can smell and see them make fresh apple pies, sauces and baked goods. Pick as much as you want and pay for what you want as well. By choosing to U-Pick you are helping the orchards collect their inventory. By buying their produce, you are helping a business continue to stay open. Fall time in Apple Hill is one of the most magical times of year. Beautiful fall colors, hard cider, apple picking, and so much more await you in this picturesque mountain town.

Sitting at the top of a beautiful hilltop in Placerville's Apple Hill region, Boa Vista Orchards has been an autumn harvest tradition for Northern California families since 1915. Located at 2569 Larsen Drive in Camino, Rainbow Orchards has been family-owned for 40 years and is best known for their hot apple cider donuts, a favorite of kids and adults alike. In addition to their on-site cider mill, they produce made-from-scratch pies, cobblers, crisps, tarts, jams, syrups, and vinegar.
But they're not all-about-apples… they also grow heirloom pumpkins and squash! If you're looking for something savory, try their tri-tip BBQ or corndogs while tapping your toes to some live bluegrass music. The farms host unique activities each fall to with fun things to do with kids. Kids will have fun at the farms that offeru pickapples and blueberries.
With fall in the air, experience ahayrideto apumpkin patchand choose your own pumpkin. Kids will love scouting for the perfect pumpkin to carve! Other kids activities such asface paintingandarts and craftbooths are available at some locations. After this, we ventured to the rest of the area and saw that it did have considerably less attractions than it does every year we've gone. I did, however, notice the Apple wine their shop now has! I discovered that Mill View Ranch is under new ownership, so that explains their new set up.
Usually, there's a very busy Bake Shop full of apple turnovers, pies, candy apples, and donuts. They also had their pumpkin patch out and ready for visitors to pick from. In the past, this ranch has several backgrounds set up for fall portraits, but it looks like we were early in our visit this year. We may end up going back in the next month to pick up some more Apple wine.
